The tent and the flysheet

- They should be properly marked with the name of the patrol and the scout troop in the corners (If you want you can draw your patrol’s totem).
- The tent and the flysheet should be folded according to the length of your bag. You can use an elastic or a rope (other than the guys) to keep them folded.

- Let them dry or air unfolded, hang them on a rope for several hours if you can after each use, even if they are not wet.
- Wash thoroughly the lower plastic bits with water and dry them.
A hint : Put the lower plastic bits under your groundsheet at night. That way there won’t be any air flow in the tent.
The guys (of the tent and the flysheet)
- The guys are made of halyard (because halyard doesn’t rot).

- Use a bowline to attach the guys to the tent.
- At the end bit attach a guyline runner, that way you can adapt the length of your guyline to different uses.
Vertical poles and the ridge pole
- Mark them to your patrol’s color with either paint or colored tape.
- Store them in a separate bag (The bag will also be marked).
Pegs and stakes
- Clean them after each use (take the dirt off)
- You can put your patrol’s color on them if you want.
- Store them head down in a small bag with your patrol’s name on. If you always make sure that they are stored that way your bag won’t be damaged.
- Pegs and stakes can be straightened with a hammer or a vice.
A hint : after putting your tent away check that there are no stakes or pegs left on the floor. Count them !
Groundsheets

- Wash the groundsheet with water after each use. Make sure it’s dry before you fold it and store it with the rest of the tent.
- Put the patrol’s and troop’s name in a corner
A hint : During the camp you can fold the groundsheet on the side, that way you can walk through without taking your shoes off.
