Small bags for storage

What you need

  • Strong and flexible pieces of fabric. ("Vichy" fabric with litlle squares is perfect)
  • Oilcloth, single colour, that can be sewed with a machine.
  • Strong ribbon, 1.5cm large
  • pinking scissors
  • A caliper
  • needles, thread, pins, safety pins.
  • felt (united colours)
  • glue for fabric
  • A sewing machine (use the help of an adult !)

Making a bag

A. The "bathroom"

1. Take a piece of oilcloth 50x28cm. Fold it and sew on the sides. Turn it inside out.
2. On the right side, 8cm from the top and on the seam hand sew a piece of ribbon 1.50m long to close the bag.
3. You can sew an oilcloth pocket on the bag for your wash cloth / flannel. You can decorate with coloured pieces of oilcloth.

 

 

 

 

B.The "kitchen"

1. Take a piece of fabric 59x30cm fold it and sew on the sides.

2. Draw a circle with a 9cm radius on the oilcloth and cut it. Sew it face against face to make the bottom of the bag. Turn it inside out.
3. At the top of the bag make a hem through which you will pull a ribbon 1.50m long.
4. Decorate with coloured pieces of felt that you can glue on the bag. The oilcloth bottom makes your bag more resistant to aluminum billycans.

 

 

C.The "bedroom"   sac nuit

1. Take a piece of fabric 60x40cm fold it and sew on the sides. Turn it inside out.
2. At the top of the bag make a hem through which you will pull a ribbon 2m long with the help of a safety pin.
3. Decorate with coloured pieces of felt.

 

This bag is big because it contains your pajamas, a torch, socks, a sweater and a nightcap if you camp in winter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

D. The "wardrobe"

 

sac linge 1. Take a piece of fabric 82x43cm fold it and sew on both sides.
2. Bring the bottom to the sides and sew on 5cm to make a rectangular shaped bottom.
If needed you can reinforce that part with a cardboard 40x5cm covered with a piece of fabric and sewed in the corners.
3. Turn inside out. make a 1.5cm hem through which you will pull a ribbon 2m long with the help of a safety pin.
4. Decorate with coloured pieces of felt.

 

This bag is big and reinforced because it contains your clothes for 7 days of camp !

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

E.The "clothes hamper"

  linge propre  

1. Take a piece of fabric 62x35cm fold it and sew on both sides. Turn inside out. Make a 1.5cm hem through which you will pull a ribbon 2m long with the help of a safety pin.
2. Decorate with coloured pieces of felt.

 

This bag is empty at the beginning of the week but will come back full !
