A sheltered kitchen

Some patrols can protect their camp from windy, rainy or sunny conditions thanks to cheap plastic tarpaulins.

cuisine abritee You can cover your camp kitchen with a tilted screen above the firepit. You can hold a wooden frame with four poles planted in the ground with a plastic canvas stretched in between.
Use dominant winds to orientate your shelter. Make sure that you minimise the wind factor. If needed you can create a guying for the poles. (just like for flag poles)

If you choose to cover your kitchen with a second screen (opposite the first ) it will be more comfortable. One of the canvas will stretch down to the floor while the other is attached on one side to 2 strong poles about 5’ - 6’ high and rests on the other side on the first canvas. Leave some room for the air intake of the firepit (4"). Do not forget the common constructions that will meliorate your lifestyle : elevated firepit, washbasin, dish-cloth handler, stool, table, etc... Use black or green plastics to respect the environement.

- BE CAREFUL : the plastic canvas should be at least 7’ above the firepits to prevent it from melting or burning. Besides your fire is a cooking fire, not a camp fire with tall flames !
