With rolls
What you need :
- Toilet rolls or bigger ! it all depends on the size you want your characters to be.
- Cardboard paper with different colours
- If you want some pieces of fabric
- Paper gluen pens,colour pencils, felt tip pens, scissors.
Making the creche
1. Cut the cardboard paper with the shape below. ci-dessous.
2. Draw the costume (men / women) you want on the cardboard paper. e.g. below.
3. Add the arms that you will fix on each side.
4. Glue on the front the "present" that the character is bringing. You can also put a fabric veil on the head of the women.
5. Glue the cardboard character on the roll
With salt dough
What you need:
- For the salt dough : one volume of salt, one volume of flour, one volume of water.
- paint and paintbrushes
- varnish
- aluminium foil
- a toothpick
Making the creche :
1. Prepare the salt dough by mixing the ingredients together until you get an homogeneous paste. It should not stick to the fingers (pour in the water little by little)
2. Make a ball and a sausage like roll that you will slightly pinch in the middle.
3. Put the ball over the sausage and stick it with a paintbrush and water (it’s the head)
4. You can also add other elements : feet, arms, a nose, a hat, a veil ... Remember : the simpler the better.
5. So that your characters stick to their original form while baking you should take some material out of the body, making a hole with a stick or a wooden spoon. Fill that hole with aluminium foil.
Carve in th edetails (nose, hair, eyes) with a toothpick.
6. Bake in an oven (300°F under the surveillance of an adult) for about one hour, than paint and varnish.
With paper cones
What you need
- cardboard paper (different colours)
- a felt-tip pen, glue and scissors
- wool, pieces of fabric.
Making the creche
1. Cut as many paper cones as you want characters. Fold and glue
Put a petticoat on top of each cone.
2. Put the wool hair and dress with the pieces of fabric. You can also draw the clothes if you like.
You can add some arms as shown in the rolls method.
For the angles cut soe wings in golden cardboard paper or tulle.
The set of the creche
Use fine sand , moss or stones that you can pick up from the floor on a hike.
For the back set use fabric, it can be molded more easily than paper.
